The topic of ccw, ownership of firearms and what's required to purchase them has always been up in the air. Many people believe if they live in a red state they are good and vice versa. I live in a town that 2nd Marine Division is co located at. I feel as the issue with firearms is not as friendly as it needs to be considering the people in majority in my county. 2nd MarDiv is a Infantry hosting battle harden Division that hosts a vast wealth of professionals that would love to be able to enjoy shooting sports in the civilian sector. You may ask well what's the problem? First off politics (oh republicans will save us!) f----- false! In my county you have to get a pistol permit and if your in the military you have to get permission from your commanding officer to purchase a pistol. So pistols are by far not as common as long guns here. Open carry what's that? To carry you have to have a ccw concealed carry weapons permit. To purchase a pistol you have to get a pistol permit. Here lies the problem, who in their right mind will ask their boss in the civilian sector can they purchase a firearm?
Ridicules right, yeah I know. It's funny a pistol is a secondary weapon to the infantry like a bayonet or fighting knife and not a first choice weapon. You would think the restrictions would be placed on the long guns which most guys are masters off. PTSD yes I said it. If you have it you got to get a doctors approval and allow the Sheriff Dept to go through all of your medical files weither VA, military, civilian etc... Many believe this is one of the reasons so many of servicemen deny PTSD because of things like this. Interesting to me because now your forcing somebody that may have a extreme case of PTSD to buy a bigger badder more deadly weapon to have a mishap with? Here in my county there is now registration for firearms but there is a requirement for a pistol permit for each pistol purchase? So the sheriff is not tracking the model and make of the pistol but he knows you bought 3 pistol permits? Yes this is a rep. county. So this is why I think that politicians no matter what party do what they want to do. In my county as well shooting sports is next to nothing. If you want to do USPCA your going to have to take a 1-3 hour trip. If you know anything about this type of shooting it requires commitment and a lot of practice so the travel time and inconvenience overcomes many people in this area. I know if it was easier for civilians and military to participate along with local clubs. The sport would be dominated. Spec ops is out of Bragg in Fayetteville Nc, MarSoc is out of Camp Lejeune NC. Believe me the talent is in this state. Last but not least look at todays society. Most military and civilians do not come from areas like Montana but rather semi to full blown urban areas. When I was in, practice was very important because you can only read so many books about shooting. For shotgun I would tell my Marines to go on base to the skeet range which by the way is dirt cheap and you can rent those 1-1500 dollar skeet guns for like 2-5bucks! For practical type shooting well its hard because of the rate of fire that is produced and most ranges don't feel comfortable enough to allow it. I tell you what if there was a lot of people owning pistols to do 3 guns and uspca the facilities would pop up. If it was more convenient to purchase firearms the sport as well as local support businesses would benefit greatly. Some of the saddest sights I see in my eyes around here are when I go to range 3-4 days out of the week and hardly no shooters? Sometimes I go on the weekends and I see a lot of younger guys shooting bench rest style with old mil surplus rifles with old cheap mil surp ammo! lol I love to shoot the old stuff and new but practical style is where the fun and challenge is at if your looking for fun. USPCA style shooting helps military, home defense, pracicing safety and is yes physical.
